Please see the below information regarding how a resident was recently solicited by a person who was misrepresenting themselves. A complaint has been filed with the police and our security camera’s will be searched for a picture of the person but please be very careful when people solicit at your door.
As a general reminder we have a “No Solicitation Policy” within the neighborhood and have signed a notice with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office regarding this. If you are solicited, it’s usually prudent to tell the person of our no solicitation policy and that you will be calling the police to report the incident.
A young man has been going door to door in the neighborhood. He arrived at my home @ 8pm on 12/20/2011 and had told my husband and I that he lives in the neighborhood(10012 or 10002 Tree Tops Lake Rd which do not exists. ) and that his dad is a doctor in Tampa. He was young…no older than 18-20, very clean cut and had tons of flyers and documentation with him. He continued that he plays baseball for an area team and that his team is doing a fund raiser to help send them to Hawaii or Orlando…( I didn’t catch that part of the conversation) and he was hoping that the neighbors here in Tree Tops would help him achieve his goal.
Anyway, he said that he was selling sponsorships to the Children’s Hospital on MLK. Each sick child that you sponsored would be receiving books throughout the year. If you sponsored a child/children his team would come clean all of your windows and gutters out for helping them with the fundraiser.
After checking with the hospital, they had no such knowledge of the fundraiser and in fact were upset to hear that their name was being used in such a manner.
I am very skeptical of many people, but this kid had a solid story and was extremely believable.
